Well this post has nothing to do with my atheistic inclinations. Just thought of sharing my doubt.
I have always known Lord Muruga (Shiva's 2nd son) as 'Thamizh Kadavul' (Tamil God). That is the insight(!?) I got, watching movies like Agathiyar, Avvayar etc. For a long time, I didn't mind it.
One day, I came to know the reason for keeping my name as 'Karthik'. It seems some well wisher near our home prayed to Lord Muruga (Karthikeyan) that at least that time (4th time :P) my mother should give birth to a male baby (I have 3 elder sisters) and if that happens, 'His' name will be kept for that child. So came this name. After hearing my own story, my interest towards Muruga increased ;)
I started thinking. If Muruga is a Tamil God, then how many sons does Shiva have according to rest of India. And if Muruga is a Tamil God, how come the name Karthik is kept even in other parts of country. No one could clarify me.
Later (probably 4 yrs back), when I was in a Karnataka tour, I went to Subramanya temple, Shiva's 2nd son in another name. (I don't know whether he is called Kannada God there:P).
So someone has to clarify me. If Muruga is not a Tamil God, then what about Agathiyar, Avvayar stuff? False information??? Or does Muruga also has different avatars(like Lord Narayana) in different Indian states?
Let me bring the email and SMS trend to blog too. "If you clear my doubt, you will get the blessings of Muruga. Or pass this doubt to 100 people and get salvation. If you neglect this post, you will also suffer like Muruga with 2 wives (for women, 2 husbands)" :D

haha you have answer in your first line itself.Think as an athiest you will get the answer. However the sound Ohm(Aum) for which Lord Muruga gave explanation to his father shows he has tamil connection
@momentumcalls (Harish)
enna connectiono?? devaruge gothu! :D
Krithkaya : apathyam puman karthikeya : , that is son of krikas
First of all , discriminating a person by region itself is not allowed in many places .. it is not fair to discriminate a god.
In kannada and Telugu they call him as subrahmanya and in kerala they call him mayuri (peacock) kandaswamy.
River Ganges , yamuna, saraswathi etc.. are not at all related to tamil nadu
Lord Krishna, Nrisimha and rama (ofcourse he crossed once tamilnadu to go to srilanka)
are not at all related to tamil nadu but still we keep the names of those above said people and praying them in tamil versas ..
at the end of the day we are human beings and identity should be based on what we are and how we are and not on just on names .. ofcourse names carry vital vibration .... even kunchidapadham is good name but if we are called by first half of the name then it is an embarasment !! For our names there are no problem .. so do not worry unduly :)
I appreciate your thought process and transforming into words and channelising it properly ... Receivers like us are happy to get and process your message .. waiting for next bytes of message !!
Thanks

Well the reason is that..
Murugar is a Tamil God or The name of god worshiped by Tamil culture. also they gave their lord a wife from their community Valli At least as early as 10BC.
At the same time gods like vishnu, shiva, durga, ganapathy, was worshipped on different parts of the indian subcontinent. when the cultures are mixed and came up with the concept of hinduism. they considered Muruga as a son of Shiva. and since shiva is in Himalayas or kaylayam. he is believed to be married with another women called deviyanai.
Read in some article where they had given reference to archealogical findings as well.
Seyyon -tamil kadavul-senthil-kathirkamam cheiftain .
Skanda north indian deity -Kandha.
Karthikeya- north indian name for the same god.. as mentioned by Lord Krishna in Gita- lord of war.
Both got merged.
Lord Shiva Kirata Nepal kadavul.
regards,
Karthik
I agree with Jithendrian. In kannada and Telugu they call him as subrahmanya and in kerala they call him mayuri (peacock) kandaswamy and in many other places (including north of India), they call him Karthikeyan (also Karthik).
